Is there exploitation in IT field?

This incident happened when I was with "X" company. He was an excellent programmer.  I trusted him to get the work done much more than his colleagues.  I noticed that he is coming in a scooter while most of his colleagues have a car. 

"Do you think you can get to the office faster by a scooter?" I asked him. 

"Yes, in the heavy traffic scooter is faster". He said

"What car do you own?"

"I do not have a car, with my salary no bank is ready to give me a loan"

"But why? I thought you may be getting more than your colleagues".

"No, they all have this **** degree, I have a few back papers"

I was surprised and saddened to hear this. I decided to confront the management. 

" Well, he cannot go anywhere, nobody will take him because he has not cleared his papers"

" But that is stupid, such a brilliant fellow, why do you pay more to the people who cannot even do half of what he can."
